English is a key subject at ACGA and develops all language skills - speaking, writing, literature, listening and reading. Thanks to the large number of lessons, students make progress regardless of their starting level and are gradually prepared for their school-leaving examinations.
Year 1 (Freshmen): building foundations (Ahead With English 3 textbook), 1 hour of conversation per week, an introduction to public speaking and storytelling.
Year 2 (Sophomore): more advanced tenses and conditionals, separate British and American literature, presentations and longer assignments (at least A2 at the start).
Year 3 (Junior): working towards C1 (Life Advanced, National Geographic), persuasive and ceremonial speeches (at least B1).
Year 4 (Senior): the culmination of preparation for school-leaving examinations - authentic novels (1984, To Kill a Mockingbird), academic writing, at least C1.
