How did studying at ACGA influence your choice of university or career path?
I believe that studying at Amazon Grammar School had a fundamental influence on my later life. Although I already dreamed of studying law at a university in the United Kingdom before joining Amazon, it was Amazon Grammar School that helped me make that dream come true. In particular, the high standard of English teaching and the overall demands of the programme prepared me very well for studying at a prestigious British university, from which I eventually graduated with the highest possible classification. I subsequently also studied law at a Czech university, and I am now on my way to becoming a lawyer. Looking back, one thing led to another, and my studies and everyday experiences at Amazon Grammar School were an important and formative part of that story. Steve Jobs captured this connection perfectly: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards.”
Which quality or value you developed at grammar school has helped you most in your personal life or studies?
Above all, it was diligence, determination and perseverance. Looking back, I am very glad that even then, at around 17, I had such a clearly defined goal: to study law abroad. That really drove me forward, and the environment, teaching style and demands at Amazon Grammar School only strengthened those qualities. I wanted to have the best possible grades and keep improving so that I could achieve my goal. It was immensely motivating that the teachers at Amazon always recognised the effort students put in and, through their approach, reassured them that consistent work would sooner or later bring the desired results. That is why I think Amazon is a great choice, whatever someone’s dream may be, or even if they are still trying to find it.
Who inspired you or supported you in achieving your goals during your studies?
My parents always supported me the most, and I am immensely grateful for that. But I also consider it very valuable that the school itself was supportive and motivating, from the teachers to my friends among the students. For me personally, the surroundings have always played a major role too, and because I transferred to Amazon from a state grammar school with a longer programme, I could truly appreciate Amazon’s beautiful premises, which I found welcoming and inspiring.
